Secure Deposits
Traditional kitten deposits rely on trust — cash, Venmo, Zelle, or wire transfers with zero protection. GoodCattery changes that with Stripe-powered payments that protect both buyers and breeders.
The problem with traditional deposits
Most breeders ask for deposits via cash, check, Venmo, or Zelle. If something goes wrong, neither party has any recourse.
For Buyers
- No proof of payment if breeder denies receiving it
- No way to dispute or recover funds
- Scammers exploit informal payment methods
For Breeders
- Chargebacks on personal payment apps
- No paper trail for disputes with buyers
- Difficulty proving deposit terms were agreed to
For Everyone
- No neutral third party to mediate
- No standardized receipt or contract
- Trust is the only protection — and trust gets exploited
How GoodCattery deposits work
Every payment flows through Stripe — the same payment platform used by Amazon, Shopify, and millions of businesses worldwide.
Buyer applies to a breeder
You find a verified breeder on GoodCattery and submit an application. The breeder reviews it and accepts you.
Deposit is placed through Stripe
You pay your deposit through a secure Stripe checkout — credit card, debit card, or Apple Pay. No cash, no Venmo, no wire transfers.
Payment is split automatically
Stripe instantly routes the deposit to the breeder's own Stripe account. GoodCattery retains a small platform fee. The breeder never touches your credit card info.
Both parties have a record
Buyer and breeder both receive a receipt. The transaction is logged, timestamped, and tied to the application — creating a clear paper trail.

Common questions
Does GoodCattery hold my money?
No. Deposits are processed by Stripe and sent directly to the breeder's Stripe account. GoodCattery only retains a small platform fee — we never hold buyer or breeder funds.
What if the breeder cancels or the kitten becomes unavailable?
Your deposit is tied to a specific application. If the breeder cancels, refunds can be issued through Stripe. All transactions have a clear record that protects both parties.
Do breeders have to use this?
No — deposits through GoodCattery are completely optional. Many established breeders prefer to handle payments directly with their buyers. Our secure deposit system is available as a tool for breeders who want the convenience and protection of Stripe-powered payments.
Do breeders need a Stripe account?
Only if they choose to accept deposits through GoodCattery. Setting up a Stripe Express account takes about 5 minutes and lets them receive deposits directly to their bank account.
What payment methods are accepted?
Credit cards, debit cards, and Apple Pay through Stripe's secure checkout. No cash, checks, Venmo, Zelle, or wire transfers.
Is there a fee?
GoodCattery charges a small platform fee on each transaction. This covers payment processing, fraud protection, and platform maintenance. Buyers pay the listed deposit amount — no hidden fees.
