What health tests should you expect from a reputable breeder?

Josh SJosh SAdmin·11d ago
One thing I've learned building this site — the health testing a breeder does tells you a LOT about how seriously they take their cats. From what I've gathered talking to breeders on here: **Minimum you should see:** - HCM screening (heart) — echocardiogram by a cardiologist, not just a vet listening with a stethoscope - DNA testing for breed-specific genetic conditions - Annual vet checkups for all breeding cats **Good signs:** - They'll share test results without getting defensive - They health guarantee their kittens - They require spay/neuter contracts for pet-quality kittens **Red flags:** - "My cats are healthy, they don't need testing" - Won't share any documentation - Gets angry when you ask Breeders on here — what tests do you run? What should buyers know to ask about? Would love to get real breeder perspectives in here.
